The Bridge making Competition

General Rules:

Paradigm will be held in two rounds both of which will be held during INNOVA’10 at DTU.

Prelims:

  • For the purpose of short listing the students, an entrance paper will be made keeping in mind the event (BRIDGE MAKING) and not civil engineering.
  • The paper will be an objective type with some visual questions as well.
  • The duration of the paper will be 15 minutes and 2 representatives from each team will take the paper. Top scoring teams will proceed to the final event.
  • Around 40 teams (each of max. 5 members) will be qualified for the final event which would be held in the convocation hall.

Main event:

  • All the selected teams will be given equal material at the venue.
  • A problem statement will be given according to which they’ll have to model their bridge.
  • A prototype of the bridge prepared by us will also be provided.
  • It will depend on the team whether to replicate that or come up with their own ideas.
  • The bridge that the teams would make must be within the specified dimensions and also should satisfy the problem statement along with the limitations fixed by our team.
  • No extra material would be provided to the teams.

 

Judging parameters:

  • The testing shall be done by load test of the model bridges that will be prepared by the teams.
  • Foremost criteria of judgment will be strength.
  • Time taken to complete the bridge will also be taken into consideration.
  • Aesthetic  appeal of the bridge should be another parameter for marking.
  • In case of any discrepancy, the judges’ decision will be final.

 

Rules and regulations:

  • Each team to comprise of max 5 members. The members of a team should belong to same college and must possess a valid I-Card of the same.
  • No participant is allowed to feature in more than one team.
  • The competition would be held in two stages: Prelims, and the finals.
  • Prelims shall be a written round wherein 2 representatives from each team will feature. The teams qualifying the prelims shall proceed for the final model making round.
  • Equal material will be provided to all the teams. No extra material should be made available.
  • A problem statement shall be given on the spot.
  • Time limit will be 3 hrs to complete the task.
  • Model of a bridge will be provided. Teams may or may not replicate it, but the bridge they make must be within specified dimensions and must satisfy the problem statement. Oversized bridges will be disqualified.

          Prizes worth INR 75,000 to be won.

  • Participation certificates would be awarded to all the scholars who have registered.
